Since early April 20014, I have written The #EdTech Spot blog where I share tips, tutorials, instructional technology tools, and curriculum integration ideas primarily for higher education faculty and adult learners.

As an experienced educator and instructional designer in higher education, I am a firm believer that effective andragogy (pedagogy for adult learners) and instructional technology integration are key to creating meaningful engaging face-to-face, blended, and online learning environments. 

Who is this site for?

The #EdTech Spot is for any educator (higher education, K-12, corporate, etc.) who embraces innovation, change, technology, AND, most importantly, learning. It's for educators that understand that technology brings new innovative ways to teach and engage today's learners, but recognize challenges with those same technologies exist in- and outside the classroom. However, it's also for those educators who put learners needs and learning outcomes first; not the technology.

10 random things about me
  1. Call me John (but I'll answer to Dr. Solis too). 
  2. I'm a huge fan of Disney World. If I could live on Disney property, I would be found at Magic Kingdom and Animal Kingdom most of the time.
  3. Related to #2 above, I have a large collection of Disney character mugs including, but not limited to, Pirates of the Caribbean, Mickey Mouse, and Goofy.
  4. I'm an active video gamer (yes...even this Ph.D. enjoys his video games).
  5. Bass fishing is my specialty. Trout...........not so much.
  6. The "if it isn't broken, don't fix it" mindset in education doesn't work for me.
  7. I knew I loved teaching the moment three undergraduate students during my first semester of teaching in spring 2001 indicated they appreciated the way I presented content, answered their questions, and treated them like adults. 
  8. Sometimes my facial expressions make me appear as if I'm grumpy or annoyed, but I'm really in deep thought. I promise...........I'm approachable.
  9. South Park, MMA (mixed martial arts), and ghost hunting/paranormal shows are my favorite to watch on television.
  10. EDM (electronic dance music), 80's, 90's, hip-hop/rap, and stand-up comedy are my favorite genres to listen to on satellite radio in my car.
